Course Description
Please Note: This session is not to be undertaken instead of the Vital 5 Check training if this is delivered in your practice; this course provides some additional learning to help you develop the confidence to have a brief conversation with your patient about their mental health whilst they are attending for their Health Check, and signpost if required.
Course Objectives
Introduce models, strategies and approaches to health promotion
Explore the health inequalities that currently exist
Understand the key components of the NHS Health Check, including the Vital 5 Mental Health Check
Gain knowledge and skills to undertake the NHS Health Check Independently
Learn how to interpret NHS Health Check results and provide brief advice to patients
Learning Outcomes
Identify the reasons why NHS Health Checks are offered.
Be familiar with the procedures and tools for conducting the NHS Health Check.
Understand how to prevent and educate patients to reduce the risk of disease.
Recognise key models and strategies used in health promotion.
Identify health promotion strategies related to current health priorities.
Explore how to apply health promotion theories in practice.
Develop an awareness of factors that impact the success of health promotion activities.
Understand motivational interviewing and Making Every Contact Count, and how to use them to improve patient outcomes.
Be prepared for supervised practice to become competent in undertaking the NHS Health Check.
