Background
I have been in general practice nursing for 10 years. Prior to this my healthcare experience encompasses maternity services and palliative care.
Clinical Experience
I work as and advanced practitioner in SEL. My role includes diagnosis and management of long-term chronic conditions, medication reviews, and evaluating individual care plans, which involve supporting patients with lifestyle changes and the use of prescribed medicines. I undertake women’s health clinics including cervical cytology, contraception, and sexual health. I also implement the childhood immunisations programme and travel health services.
Education Experience
I deliver practice education teaching sessions to student nurses and nursing associates. I lead on the SSSA course and update. I facilitate nursing updates, including wound care and seasonal vaccination. I also deliver GPA training and care certificate modules for AHPs.
What do you do at PCWA?
As a practice educator nurse at the SELWDH I have a key role in primary care workforce development and support the the GPN role as a career destination for newly qualified nurses or the transition into general practice nursing. I support nursing education in practice to pre-registration and qualified nurses.
Why do you teach?
I completed the mentorship training in general practice while completing my practice nurse training and was part of the first SSSA conversion training in 2019. Since then, I have pursued my passion for teaching and clinical supervision by striving for high training standards, best practice and professional development.
